This recipe for Teriyaki Tofu is a tasty, flavor-filled vegetarian dish. Tofu is marinated and cooked in a house-made teriyaki sauce until the outside becomes crispy and the inside becomes soft.
Ingredients:
- 1 block firm tofu, pressed and drained
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons mirin
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Green onions, sliced, for garnish
Instructions:
Once the tofu is cut into cubes, set it aside
To make the teriyaki sauce, combine the soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic in a bowl
Make a slurry by combining cornstarch and water in a separate small bowl
In a big skillet over medium heat, warm the sesame oil
Add the tofu cubes and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, or until golden brown on all sides
After covering the tofu with teriyaki sauce, cook it for a further two to three minutes, or until the sauce thickens
Add sliced green onions and sesame seeds as garnish
Serve hot with noodles or rice
